Number Memory Test

Test your number sequence memory and digit span. Memorize the digits, enter them in the same order, and advance to a longer sequence after each correct round.

🔢
Number Memory
Memorize the number, then type it from memory. Each correct round adds one digit; one mistake ends the run.

How the Number Sequence Memory Test Works

The test starts with a 3-digit number displayed for a duration proportional to its length (minimum 1.5 seconds). After the number disappears, type the complete sequence from memory in the same order. A correct answer advances you to the next round with one additional digit. An incorrect answer ends the run. Your score is the maximum number of digits you correctly reproduced.

Scoring

Your score is the maximum digits remembered in a single run. Higher is better. Rounds completed are also tracked.

Factors

Display time, attention, and whether you use chunking strategies all affect results. The display duration scales with digit count to give proportionally more time for longer numbers.

Tips

Group digits into chunks of 2–3, like a phone number. Read the number in your head using the grouped rhythm, then reproduce each chunk in order.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the number memory test work?

A number starting at 3 digits appears on screen for a few seconds. You type it from memory. If correct, the next round adds one more digit. One wrong answer ends the run. Your score is the most digits you remembered.

What is a number sequence memory test?

A number sequence memory test measures how many digits you can hold in short-term memory and reproduce in the same order. MetricRally starts at 3 digits and adds one digit after each correct round.

What is a typical digit span?

Digit-span results vary by task design and testing conditions. Use your score mainly for self-tracking under the same test conditions rather than as a diagnosis or measure of overall ability.

Is this a digit span test or an IQ test?

This is a digit span memory exercise for entertainment and self-tracking. It is not an IQ test, intelligence assessment, or cognitive diagnostic tool. Digit span is one specific memory measure and does not capture overall cognitive ability.

How can I remember more digits?

Try grouping digits into pairs or triplets, like a phone number, and use a consistent rhythm. Compare attempts under similar conditions so changes in your personal best are easier to interpret.
